Abstract： Zhongmei Huayue is a new strawberry cultivar derived from a cross between Ningyu (female parent) and Kaorino (male parent). In February 2015, the hybrid seeds were obtained by artificial hybridization pollination and stored at 4℃. In May 2015, the seeds were sown, about 800 hybrid seedlings were obtained and were transplanted into greenhouse in September. In 2016, it was initially selected for early maturity, high yield, good fruit taste, and so on. The selected seedlings were propagated, then 30 healthy seedlings propagated from each initially selected seedling were planted in greenhouse in early September for further evaluation. “10-E5-31”, fine one among the selected seedlings, was determined to serve as the line for further evaluation and was propagated largely. In 2017, the seedlings from “10-E5-31” line were planted at Zhengzhou, Dengfeng, and so on for cultivable adaptability testing. The results evaluated in 2017 showed that this line has good multiple characters and stable growth performance. The planting area of this line was expanded in 2018~2019, and its multiple character still showed fine and stable. Its planting area was expanded continually, and it was evaluated finally for three-year continual regional adaptability testing at Xinxiang ang Xinyang of Henan, Qinhangdao of Hebei, Wenshan of Yunnan and so on from 2020 to 2023. The results showed that it has stable cultivation character. “10-E5-31” line has moderate plant growth and the growth habit of the plant is open form. The plant height is 29.2 cm and crown diameter is 27.7 cm. The leaves are elliptic with green in color. The grown-up leaf is 9.8 cm in length. The petiole length is 15.6 cm. The average leaf life-span is about 90 d. The plant has 4~6 inflorescences and the flowers number per inflorescence is 10~15. The average weight of the fruits on the first-order and the second-order is 33.2 g and 21.3 g, respectively. The average weight of the fruits on whole plant is 24.9 g and the weight of the largest fruit is 62.9 g. The fruits have red or orange-red surface and small hole in the flesh pith. The fruit tastes is sweet with some sour and pleasant aroma. The contents of soluble solids are 12.3~15.7%. The fruit firmness is 2.47 kg·cm-2. The fruit is fairly resistant to storage and transport and is suitable for fresh eating. In Zhengzhou area of Henan, Zhongmei Huayue set field planting in Late August and its fruits begin ripening in mid-November. The plants have strong stress resistance, high seedling propagation rate, and easy seedling cultivation. Zhongmei Huayue is a new strawberry cultivar with early ripening, high quality, high yield, anti-anthracnose, and suitable for protected forcing cultivation.
