A new Malus ornamental variety‘Hongmantang'

PDF Abstract

‘Hongmantang'was derived from the cross‘Maypole'×Malus baccata(L.)Borkh,it had not only wild-resistant traits like its parents,but also the beautiful crown.‘Hongmantang'could bear fruits in two years after planting,which was purple-red flower and blood-red flesh,flowering period was 10-15 days longer than its parents. Leaves,flowers and fruits of the variety all had ornamental value,its viewing period could last seven months.‘Hongmantang'was mainly used for viewing,suitable for squares,streets,residential,gardens and other landscaping,meanwhile,it could also be used as raw material for food processing and natural pigment extracting.‘Hongmantang'was adapted to the south area of Xinzhou in Shanxi Province,where average annual temperature was 6.5-12.5 ℃,800-2 300 m above sea level and other regions with similar climate.
