Breeding report of a new table grape cultivar Zhichang Zifeng

Abstract: In order to meet the urgent needs of grape production for new grape varieties with large berry, high quality and yield, and disease resistance, we carried out the breeding of new grape varieties and selected a new table grape variety Zhichang Zifeng with large berry, high quality, disease resistance and strong adaptability. The hybridization between Fujiminori and Jumeigui was made in 2008. 43 hybrid seeds were harvested, the seeds were sowed in Juxian county, Shandong Province in 2009. A seedling numbered 08-05-23 showed promising characters such as large berry with crispy-hard flesh and muscat flavor in 2011. The wines of 08-05-23 were collected and grafted on SO4, 5BB rootstocks with resis-tances for further observation in 2012. The regional experiments were then carried out in Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu and Hebei province. It was registered as Zhichang Zifeng by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2021. The yield and quality were better than those of its parents. The cluster was conical and single shouldered. The length of the cluster was 20-25 cm, and the width was 9-13 cm. The average cluster weight was 600 g, and the maximum weight was 1200 g. The density of fruit berries was medium. The berry was elliptic, the longitudinal diameter of the berry was 3-8 cm, and the transverse diameter was 2.5-2.9 cm. The average single berry weight was 11.5 g, and the maximum weight was 18.1 g. The skin of berry was medium thick, the berry powder was medium, the color was purple black, and the flesh was medium crispy with muscat flavor. The number of seeds per berry were 2-3, the content of soluble solids substance was 18.3%. The growth vigor was medium to strong. It had good resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew and cold. It was stably productive. The berrys ripened in the early and mid-August. It could be planted in the areas of Northern China adaptable for cultivating mid and late maturing grape varieties. And it also could be cultivated in the arid, semi-arid and rainy areas in Southern  China. The V-shaped frame and fence frame. with the space of (1.5-3.0) m × (3.0-6.0) m would be ap-preciated.
