Breeding report of a new pear cultivar 'Jicui'

Abstract:'Jicui' is a new late-maturing pear cultivar, which is derived from the cross between 'Huangguan'×'Jinhua' in 1997 at Shijiazhuang Institute of Fruit Tree, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences.After several years of observation, '02-7-69' demonstrating superior characteristics both in perfect appearance and high quality was initially selected as a superior individual in 2006.After regional adaptability testing at three sites of Hebei province (including Jinzhou, Cangzhou, and Weixian) from2009 to 2015, the main economic characters of'02-7-69'was stable, it was finally selected in 2016.The tree is vigorous with conical crown and semi-open tree gesture.The germination rate is medium, branching ability is medium.The tree trunk present brown color, annual branches are grey-brown color.The size of lenticels is small and density is dense.The leaf bud is small and oblique.The flower bud is reddishbrown with a conical silhouette.Leaves are ovate with long leaf tips and round leaf base.Leaf margin is sharply serrated.Corolla is white and anthers are pink.The number of per inflorescence is from six to eight.The fruit mainly bore on the short branches.Fruiting continuously of bourse shoot is strong.The fruit shape is mainly round.The fruit peel is smooth and green-yellow color.The fruit dot is small and densely.The peel is thin.The average weight of single fruit is 310 g.The flesh is white thin crisp rich juicy and tasted sour-sweet.The soluble solids content is 12.5% with little stone cell and residue.It has very good qualities such as high and stable yield.The fruit development period is about 150 days and can be harvested in early September in Shijiazhuang area.This cultivar can bear fruits in the second year after planted and has high yield at the fifth year.Four-year trees have high yield potential of 562 kg per 666.7 m2.The fruits of 'Jicui' can be stored about 20 days in room temperature.The cultivar is suitable for three fan-shaped cracks and trees should be planted in rows of 3 m× (4-5) m.'Huangguan'and'Yali'can be used as pollinated trees because of the same blooming time.The resistance of tree to pear scab is stronger and its environment adaptability is better.
