A new late-maturing grape cultivar ‘Shuijinghong'

Abstract:‘Shuijinghong'is a new late-maturing grape variety with good quality and attractive appear-ance. The original seedling was bred from the cross between‘Manicure Finger'and‘Muscat Hamburg'atthe vineyard in the Zhengzhou Fruit Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agriculture Sciences(CAAS). Through artificial hybridization pollination, the cross of‘Manicure Finger'and‘Muscat Ham-burg'was made in 2003, 1 013 hybrid seeds were got. The seedlings were planted in vineyard of theZhengzhou Fruit Research Institute in 2004. It was initially selected in 2006 for its good quality. After sev-eral years of observation, it was characterized by good quality, appearance, storage and mid-resistance. InJan. of 2016, it was put on records by the Henan Province Committee for Forest Variety Validation.‘Shui-jinghong'belongs to Vitis vinifera, the vigor of plant is medium, young branches are green, mature branch-es are reddish-brown, branches are oblate, the surface of branches has pinstripe. Nodes and internodesare glabrous, length of internode is middle, ordinarily 8-13 cm long, 0.5-0.9 cm wide. The shoot is semi-up-right with little hairs, tendril spread interval, 15-21 cm long. Young sprout of growth potential is medi-um, side shoot of germination and growing power moderately strong. Young sprout on the top of shoot issemi-open, green with little red and glabrous. The young leaves is aubergine, glossy and less villi, matureleaves is nearly circular, blade profile was medium sized, color is green, leaves is flat and medium thick-ness. Shape of sawteeth were bilateral convexity. Leave has four cracks, crack is deep. The upper crackwas slightly overlapped, the shape of base was“U”shape. The under crack is slightly overlapping, theshape of the base is“U”shape. The back of leave is glabrous. The flower is hermaphrodite flower and usu-ally positioned at the third or fourth node. The number of seeds per berry is ranged from 1 to 3, average1.4 seeds, seeds germination is ordinary. The characters of‘Shuijinghong'is found as follow: the shape ofcluster is coniform, no pair of ear, cluster was big, cluster was 18-23 cm long,15-18 cm wide, the aver-age weight is 820 g, the cluster density is medium to tight, the shape of berry is pointed oval and the aver-age weight was 8.3 g with the maximum of 10.1 g, 2.9-3.3 cm in diameter, 1.5-1.7 cm long. The fruit col-or is red. The berries are uniform in shape and color. The thickness of the skin is thin, the flesh is juicyand crisp, the firmness of the berries is medium. The length of peduncle is medium. The soluble solidscontent is 15.4%, total sugar is 13.2%, and titration acid is 0.28%. The content of tannin is 644 mg·kg^-1,the content of vitamin C is 6.87 mg·kg^-1. The flavor is sweet, the quality is good. In Zhengzhou area, thetime of bud-burst is the beginning of April, and flowering at mid May, the fruits mature on September10 th. The average rate of fruiting shoot is 40% and the yield is about 22.5 tones per hectare. The grapehas strong pathogen resistance, but has weak resistance to downy mildew. This grape variety has the goodyield, good storage and high adaptability. This grape behaves well in the sandy soil, clay, alluvium of theYellow River. In the mature time, no fruit cracking occurs after rain. Vertical trellis, canopy frame, highwide vertical frame were recommended. This grape cultivar may prune in short, middle, long branch ac-cording to frames. Balanced application of both organic and chemical fertilizers based on the plant everygermination and development stage.
